The property is covered in heritage grade native bush which attracts a variety of wildlife. There are many native bird species, the predominant being the Tui, whose beautiful chorus is heard all day, all year. These days there are a few Kiwi about, however they're extremely shy. At times, deer come through mainly
at night. Of the six acres, four is covered in Native Bush the rest open grassland. There's is another cottage on the property (the original farm cottage) which is permanantly tenanted and is situated about 50m from the Red Barn. Nikau Heights is bordered on all side by Bush reserves and privately owned bush
blocks.
